April 2012

GOLD

A few quick thoughts here. As many of you know I have always held that this was a good long-term investment for the first two decades of this century – and was saying that in the very early 90s. Provided you are not going in and out of the gold market, I felt that this was a safe haven. I continue to hold that view and fully expect the price to rise again before the end of 2012. First though there is likely to be a dip – and most likely coinciding with the April New Moon. I am looking for a rise between April 8th and 19th and then a fall in the latter days of April before another rise from May 27ththrough June 15th.

Of these periods, the few days between April 15th and 19th could see the sharpest movements. (I wonder too if there will be significant movement on Tuesday April 10th – though is this is upward, the price could then fall back a day later).  If you are happy to play with the planets, then a purchase around 12th for sale a week later could be rewarding if your technical signals agree.

EQUITIES

As you may remember, I felt that the period around March 15th would see a market top (at least as far as the Dow and FTSE were concerned). As I write that seems to have been the case on the three key indices: DOW, FTSE and S&P 500. I think there is another, similar, ‘top’ coming in the last week of April. Those prepared to ride these choppy waves may be tempted to go back into the market around April 17th with the intention of taking profits on April 29th. As outlined in the graphs sent last month, the outlook for late May and June is not good at all.

I have spent some of the last few weeks in commodities research and have, I think, found an index that is particularly responsive to planetary movement: the S&P Mining index. The last high here was on February 3rd as Neptune moved into Pisces (geocentric). The index then fell through to Venus’ Taurus ingress on March 5th. The intervening period showed expected movement – responding to two key lunar cycles most satisfactorily. Unless this index breaks form, then it should reach another peak on Friday April 27th. This could prove a significant date for all mining stocks but should perhaps be viewed as a last hurrah before the difficult aspects apply from mid May.

Now that Neptune has moved into its ‘own’ sign of Pisces, attention is likely to turn to all things marine (it is perhaps no surprise that there plans to film deep underwater and that the film maker wants these images available to a global audience!). This though is the surface noise – from the financial perspective, marine life and medicines directly related to oceanic materials should be considered as part of any investment portfolio. This sector should soar over the next dozen years.

Then there is water itself – and those companies whose products and services ensure its safe delivery. Since water may well become scarcer in the years ahead, investing in this sector should be carefully considered.

Utilities sectors on both sides of the pond should be seen as attractive for the next few years. Low prices this summer could provide a buying opportunity.

Perhaps most interesting of all will be buildings projects due to commence in late November. Companies involved in these works could pay exceptional dividends within a Mars cycle (a couple of years).

It is generally acknowledged that the passage of Jupiter through a particular sign coincides with fast growth in sectors related to that sign. On June 12th Jupiter beings its journey through Gemini – the sign associated with communications and travel. Gemini is the sign ‘of the twins’. It might be worthwhile looking now at how well local cycle shops are doing and then considering investment in those firms which supply cycle parts.

Mobile phones and easy-to-carry laptop computers are also likely to feature prominently in the next year. (I’ll make a plea here: for over a year I have been looking for a computer to replace this Sony Vaio and nothing comes anywhere near in terms of weight and size. There’s a whole market out there for anyone who can crack the computing needs of business women on the move!).

Gemini is associated with early education. Already in the UK there has been a run on a small £20 computer for children to learn about computing operations. Expect these items to be highly popular and perhaps even ‘musts’ for Christmas stockings in 2012.

And then of course there is electronic publishing  (and connected advertising)- another area for massive growth.

GEO-SHOCKS

Planet positions mid March suggested a market top – but might also contribute to significant earth movement or volcanic eruption. As we now know, there was a significant earthquake in the Tokyoregion. Earth movement has continued and, over the Equinox, rocked foundations in Mexico.

The Full Moon on May 6th coincides with lunar perigee whilst Mercury and Saturn appear opposite one another. Think of this as two tight-ropes in the sky: one between the Sun and Moon and the other between Mercury and Saturn. Then mid-May Venus stations as both Mercury and Mars move to form trine relationships to Pluto soon after the Sun holds its annual alignment with Jupiter. Pressure on the Earth’s crust between May 6th and 16th may be considerable with tremendous upheaval possible as the Moon crosses 0 declination on 14th/15th May.

Such activity might well affect indices. Please note that even if there is no natural disaster, the late May-June period appears negative for key markets.

WAR

If you have read the book ;Financial Universe’ then you will know that all too often ancient peoples – and especially those in the Middle East – have tended to go to war as the outer planets moved to square (90 degrees) or oppose (180 degrees) one another. Of the possible pairings of outer (Saturn and beyond and therefore very slow-moving planets), it is the relationship of Uranus to Pluto that is worthy of most consideration.

You may recall that the last time these two planets shared a zodiacal area (formed a conjunction) was in the mid 60s – coinciding with the Cultural revolution and Paris student riots amongst many things. The two are now at apparent right-angles to one another – an aspect that hangs in the sky until 2015. When a faster moving planet forms a geometric picture with these two planets, human kind seems to suffer sudden rushes of blood to the head and violence follows (think back to the summer of 2011 and the UK riots).

Mid-July 2012 Mars will create a near perfect T-square with Uranus and Pluto. The Moon too joins the picture for a few hours on Tuesday July 17th. This is a very ugly and potentially violent picture which, if mirrored on Earth could lead to even larger scale riots than were experienced last year.

Even before then – and in the coming four weeks, there are dates which could be described as offering ‘trigger-happy’ moments. April 6th (Full Moon) 7th, 8th, 10th, 14th, 15th, 22nd, 24th and 25thcould each be described as difficult.

SUMMARY

All told then, the Sun passage through Aries this year could prove a lively and challenging time. Today’s New Moon configures with Uranus – planet of the unexpected. Though even today has been one of high drama, (the shooting of the French killer after a lengthy siege), this New Moon effect is only just getting under way.

The UK budget was delivered in what is known as the ‘dark of the Moon’. We may expect much to be uncovered and for some radical rethinks to be made necessary – especially when you consider that Mercury is retrograde. Though this budget appears to have delivered radical new ideas it appears that the other side of Uranus – the cruel side – will negatively affect older citizens. The backlash around mid April will surely be considerable.
